There’s a delicious mix of newly opened—and soon-to-open—eateries and restaurants along the esplanade. The Consortium Qld Group, the team behind local favourite The Arsonist and recent recipient of a prestigious hospitality and catering contract for the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, is driving this exciting culinary expansion.
Here are the ones to put on the list to try for your next day or night out:
Wang Chung
Located right on William Gunn Jetty, Wang Chung is a new take on modern Asian cuisine. Share-style dining means you could opt for a light bite or a longer, decadent feast – with a side of ocean views. For a special lunch or dinner, or a larger group, Wang Chung also offers a banquet menu, with a selection of dishes that can be paired with a curated wine and cocktail list.
Our recommendations: Start with the raw local snapper wonton taco with nam jim, ginger mayo, and kaffir lime, or go a little extra with half a dozen of Pacific oysters with mint and cucumber salsa or white ponzu.
Manly Fish Co
The Manly Fish Co is the esplanade’s latest new opening, with a modern take on an old-school classic fish and chip shop. It’s serving up alfresco-style seafood with a focus on local and fresh produce, so its menu is constantly evolving to the freshest options available. The Manly Fish Co. is a licensed venue, so you can enjoy a little ice-cold beer, wine, or cider alongside your bites.
Our menu favourites are hand-cut chips with aioli next to some local prawn rolls with dill, capers, iceberg lettuce, Spanish red onion and mayonnaise, or for a bigger group, The Fisherman’s Catch is the perfect mix of everything. Snapper, scallops, salt and pepper squid, school prawns, and a serving of chips.
Olivera
Olivera Bar & Dining is the next newcomer to the esplanade, set to open in the coming months. The restaurant will be perched up on the corner of Esplanade and Cambridge Parade, said to transport you to sun-kissed European shores with its blend of Mediterranean flavours and local Australian charm. The team behind Olivera have a focus on vibrant and fresh ingredients, plus will offer a curated wine list and creative cocktail menu.
The menu is yet to be released, however, there are rumours of Ouzio Snapper with fennel and tomatoes and a cumin-and-coriander-crusted slow-roasted lamb shoulder.
With the growing local dining scene, there are plenty of new and delicious options to explore along the Esplanade – whether it’s with loved ones or a group of friends for something special, or a simple date night.
